Calibre Companion iOS App Details

Calibre Companion (CC), recommended by calibre developers, is three applications in one: - a superb device-based calibre library organiser - a high-performance WiFi-based calibre device emulator - a calibre content server and cloud provider client (Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive) 1) CC is a device-based calibre library organiser. Once you put books on your device using one of the connection methods described below you can: - view a book's metadata (author, tags, series, rating, dates, etc.). - sort and group books by their metadata. - see book lists by cover or by list. - mark books read and sync this information with calibre. - launch your book reader application to read a book 2) CC can connect to calibre over WiFi and be detected by calibre as a device. Once connected, you use calibre to move books to and from your device. Calibre automatically updates all the book metadata stored by CC to match the latest in your library. 3) CC can connect to calibre’s content server or to your cloud provider to browse your library and download books to your device. Supports Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive. For more information see our FAQ (http://cc_faq.multipie.co.uk/) Notes: CC is not a reader app. You must install and use one of the many excellent reader apps available. You must also already use calibre to manage your library of ebooks.

  • Does not connect to OneDrive

Tried to do a cloud connect but the app does not allow me to specify where my library is. The Android version does, but the iPhone/iPad version doesn’t.
  • Giving up...

After having used this for over a year, I am finally giving up on it. It does work as advertised...well, sorta. My gripes fall into two categories. First, the user interface, while functional, is relatively crude and somewhat non-intuitive. I had hoped that this might be improved, but it’s remained pretty much the same since the app’s initial release. That’s not to say that this aspect of the app couldn’t see improvements in future releases. Second, the app is buggy. Some of my issues here are minor — for example, in my case the app unreasonably insists that all books have the exact same (incorrect) book cover. Various attempts to correct this odd behavior (including reinstallation) have failed to correct it. But my primary issue with the app is the reliability with which it connects to calibre. Sometimes it works flawlessly in this regard. But just as often, in spite of all troubleshooting attempts, it fails completely. For a paid app, I frankly expect better. I’ve repeatedly and exhaustively pored over the associated app FAQs on this issue, but have yet to understand why the app suddenly decides not to connect nor how to fix the problem when it does fail. I’ve decided that, while it’s not as elegant a solution, it’s far easier, far less frustrating, and infinitely more reliable to just use calibre to transfer books to Dropbox and then to move those books to a reader.

This is an absolute must-have for anyone who uses Calibre. The best way to organize your ebook library on an iOs device.
  • Is not a reader app; just a way to move your calibre books over

I thought this included a reader function, but it's just a way to move your books over from calibre. Works ok for me over wireless so far to move the books over without problem; but, lacking a built in reader, you still have to then copy them over to a reader app.
  • Will not work with IPad

Connected one time via content server....never wirelessly. Update IOS and could never get it to connect again. Buyer beware: Do not purchase for IPad usage

Love how I can pull books from calibre to my iPad so easily and quickly.
  • The app does nothing

Connect iPad to computer. Load iTunes. Transfer EPUB. Easy. Or set up content server. Easy. This app does the same thing, except in a much more complicated and confusing way. There is really no point to this app and it brings no value to the transfer/sync process.

Says added a book, but can’t see it on iBooks. I can add with just the Calibre server and Chrome browser

I have been using CC for a while on my iPad and iPhone and it has worked without flaw in the past, but since IOS 11 came out it has been kind of glitchy. It was offline for a while but now the update has made it compatible with IOS 11, it is working fine on my iPhone, but still a few issues with iPad. The app serves me well and I do recommend it for getting your books from calibre to your preferred device.
