  • Worth the subscription cost

I’ve learned more Chinese through these lessons than any other method, including some in-person tutoring (I probably wasn’t at the level where it could help me yet. These lessons helped me build the confidence I could learn Chinese —now I’m in Taiwan about to start my first official classes! By the way, I’ve only recently started using this app. Previously I used Apple’s integrated Podcast app to get lessons from an RSS feed. It’s difficult to overstate how much better the ChinesePod app is compared to that. This app handles the additional materials a thousand times more gracefully. Finally, the ChinesePod subscriptions go on a sale for a huge discount once or twice a year. It’s worth signing up for a free account to get the marketing email promotions if you’re interested but need to pay less.

Be prepared to lose subscribers soon because of this trash heap. I'm thinking of preemptively subscribing now, in fact
  • It costs too much.

I like the videos on YouTube, but buying premium costs way too much.
  • Everything.. Needs a Payment

    By Ash HazelWood
If you were just going to make us download this and then make us pay for practically anything, then that’s bad marketing. Everything that I saw was ‘premium.’ I had to PAY to use any of the features or even a lesson. Really? You make the app free but make us pay for the lessons.
  • Chinese pod app

I really enjoy this app, makes studying on the train much easier. Of course, the best way to study is through their website and the app does need more refinement. Ihope to see more changes to this app in the future but it will do for now.
  • Terrible

Considering what I pay a month for a chinesepod subscription this app is totally unacceptable. The episodes don't download to the app. Although there is this option to download so you can listen on the go without using your data, the episode just sits there in the download folder but never completes. I've gotten so frustrated I barely use Chinesepod anymore even though I paid for a year. They need to get their act together if they want people to pay for this.
  • Non-functional

    By TiffBAA
I couldn't get any of the videos to play on the website, and the app was asking for a confirmation code which never came to my email despite following the instructions on the email that was sent to obtain the code. Plus, when they say free 30-day trial, I think all they actually mean is their first three (not four like they are actually saying on the website) are free.
  • Love Chinespod

I love Chinesepod but don't like this app....main issue is everything is too small. I find the website is much more robust than the app. My expectation is a new wonderful app will come out soon to complement the excellent experience of the website.
  • App missing functionality

    By Pwnopotamus
The app is pretty is much better. No way to review vocabulary lists or flash cards. Can't add vocabulary to lists either. Don't know why that feature was removed. Also, the app version doesn't have exercises/tests available at the end of the lesson. Pretty disappointing.
  • Update is pretty good, app is essential, worth the money

    By Forrest McSweeney
I have studied Mandarin for 7 years in China, Taiwan, and the U.S. This app is what you need to improve your Chinese if you do not have particular aptitude at learning languages. They have a very keen understanding of the concept of finding the sweet spot, that level just beyond what you already know so you won't be overwhelmed by the next video/level, but still far enough away to push you to improve. They also possess subtle understanding of the very bizarre differences between Chinese and English and mostly do not rely on cheap/misleading/superficial explanations of meaning. They have good writers (who are actually educated professionals in Chinese language studies) and voice actors who slow down and speed up to the exact speed you need to improve. Production value is pretty good. The app is pretty good, downloading the videos is useful but the best part is that the app offers all of the dialogues in Chinese and English translation (English hidden until button pressed)and has a nifty feature which allows it to seamlessly copy and paste to pleco (which you should also have.) Their Qingwen feature is quite good as these videos are a direct response to user questions. The above review stating that qingwen is not on this update is wrong. My only complaint is that they have not added a counter to the videos telling you how many times you have studied it. They offer a $1 trial period. Get it from the website.
