  • The Globe should be embarrassed

    By RKDuke
Crashes, hung downloads, slow loading...what a mess.
  • No iPhone X Support

    By dantali0n
App doesn’t support the X’s screen, paper downloads are slow, interface is outdated and clunky.
  • An embarrassment

    By Rich Mur.
“Words can't describe just how bad this app is. Downloads get hung up so that one can be waiting days for issues that never show up. The Globe should be embarrassed that it's name is associated with this piece of junk. Don't buy it.” I wrote the above review several years ago and have been assured by the Globe that the app will be improved. Now, two years later, nothing has changed, and it’s still a pig. More often than not, the paper’s already slow down-load never finishes, and I say the hell with it, and never get to read the paper. How the Globe allows this to happen is incomprehensible.
  • poor excuse for an e paper

    By Karen6789
I get 2 epapers delivered, one which works great, never crashes and allows me to read the paper easily. The Globe freezes, won’t move to the next page, won’t load for 4-5 minutes, is extremely frustrating. If a hard copy doesn’t get delivered, there is a number to call. Who do you contact if the epaper can’t be read? Does anyone at the Globe care?
  • Update 3-4-2017. How an app can lose customers

    By masterblastergonefaster
2-20-18 How lame is that this app still stinks. I paid for the Boston globe. Just give me an app that opens today’s edition and doesn’t tell me this edition is not available offline. I’m online just your app is not. 3-4-17 Months later....What's wrong with these people. Their app still stinks. Numerous bugs and crashes. They should take some notes from the WSJ on how to create a functioning app. Even apple says this app doesn't clear its data hogging space with no way to clear effectively. Then it refuses to close and reopen to show new editions, at times won't load, at times tells me it needs an internet connection- haha-I have a good one posting this low rated review. Hello hello Boston globe?? They probably paid app developers some good money to grind a pretty good app to a nub of functionality. I have a subscription and I'm logged in but it still only gives me the option of buying today's issue. Other navigation issues, archiving everything instead of removing x number of past issues make this app a clunker. Globe executives. I hope you read this and realize you messed up.
  • Shockingly basic; yet enjoyable

    By AlexSWill
The app is far too basic for an organization such as the Globe. I know money is tight in print media, but surely someone in upper management is wise enough to know they need to be investing in technology. However, there is something to be said for its format. I like that I can have a “newspaper” experience without all the pages and the fees of home delivery. Even as a millennial, I like that its “all the news fit to print,” per se, as opposed to every story we’ve ever written on the website, which i have to scroll through. I like that newspapers have a front and back page - I knew when I was done and I trusted the professionals to discern what stories were important enough to get printed. That being said, they could continue this format but give it some significant upgrades. Certainly if some come to mind for me, there are experts who would know even better. One final note: I haven’t used the app on my phone; I imagine it might not work as well. It seems more suited for a tablet.
  • Just Terrible

    By SHuffMax
What will it take for you guys to fix this app? The only constant in my morning experience with The Globe is the app freezing at least 3-4 times while I am reading. Close the app, reload, get two stories in, and freeze again! Total amateur hour here. Just pathetic. The worst part - The Globe is a great newspaper and this app does not do it justice. Fix it!
  • Why not have ePaper and app version? Or joint

    By Boston fan85
The ePaper is good for what it is. However, there should be the ability to change to a traditional app version such as the Washington Post or NYTimes app.
  • Worked great and now horrible.

    By Nancy vna
I cannot even read the Globe now. It freezes every time. It worked great after a faulty start for a while and is now worse than it has ever been. Please fix it!! I am a dedicated Boston Globe reader but now am just New York Times all the way until it is better.
  • Horrible app that we must accept

    By BostonConrad
As everyone else has pointed out, this app has many problems and is embarrassingly awkward to use to read the newspaper, which is its only purpose! And I’ve been using it for a couple years, over a few upgrades and iOS versions. My biggest complaint is that after you have downloaded today’s paper (which means it is cached on the phone), if you start to read it but then stop for a couple hours, when you go back to continue reading, the app shows you the page you were on for 1 second, then goes back to the main screen. Why? It’s not like there is a new version of the paper that I might want to read—this is in the middle of the day, and the app should easily be able to know if there even is a new newspaper edition or not. It is utterly annoying and wastes my time. Fit it!!
