  • Good app

My only complaints are how long the lives take to refill, the fact that you need internet for lives to register that the time has passed, and the inability to work offline. Otherwise, I love this app and use it everyday.

I’m learning Japanese and I am happy that I’m learning Hiragana. However is pretty basic like how to read and how to say it but when you adjust the volume the app panics and you won’t be able to hear it again so you have to close the app and re-open. With that said, is cool. I like it and I think you will like it.
  • No more lives

I believe that we should have no lives in our learning because we want to continue learning without being stressed out of getting something wrong 5 times and wait for hours to get one life. I want to have no lives and continue on learning a language
  • Not as good anymore

I have been using this app for 3 years now, consistently. I understand many changes even when the ads were added. They need to pay for the upkeep of this program. However.... The recent updates have made it near unbearable. I use a cell phone where sometimes autocorrect is not my friend. Or the app catches me with a bad typo. Or despite a 950 day streak I’m not perfect, language is hard and I make mistakes. Suddenly even repeating lessons uses health. Which take upwards of 5 hours to regenerate 1 bar. So you can make only 4 mistakes per day really. Before this was only the case for new lessons, then you could repeat old lessons that had dropped down from gold to count toward your daily goal. They killed this. I find it hard to use this app now. This is no longer enjoyable learning. I find myself using google translate because I just want to complete my lessons and they can be finicky. (Nipote can be both grandson or nephew and you’ll get it wrong if you don’t pick the one they intended for example.) Such a shame. Thanks for a good attempt Duolingo, you were decent for a while there. :(
  • The new upgrade is all about the $$$

I’ve been using Duolingo for a few years. It wasn’t the best, but was free and was great for being able to review old material without having to ‘pay for wrong answers.’ Given that it doesn’t usually teach you grammar or nuances in language and even some vocabulary before it appears in the lessons, that was a good balance. I have used it to refresh on Spanish and last year started using it for German. In January, I paid for the annual subscription so I could download lessons and use on the subway. The recent update and overhaul has RUINED the App. The health meter now applies to every lesson, all the time. You effectively have six wrong answers before you have either wait a day or pay to refill your health. And it applies to words not learned yet, making it near possible to get through a lesson without simultaneously using Google translate. If your goal is to spend 10 to 15 minutes practicing a day, find another app. Duolingo is now just another money trap. Needless to say, I won’t be renewing the subscription.

I used to love this app but the recent update is horrible. It keeps crashing any time I try to enter the app (and I tried everything - restarting the app, hard resetting my phone, reinstalling the app, etc.) Please fix this!

  • Unfortunate updates

You used to be able to choose your own levels from each category/lesson to review but you can’t anymore. This is annoying because there may be specific levels you want to review without redoing the entire category/lesson. Also, it makes you review redundantly easy lessons to earn “health” when you run out. Come on, Duolingo, really? You can do better!
